So you decide to live in Marang. What can you do here other than to go fishing and lay on the beach all
day and get brown - although this is not at all a bad option.
There's all kinds of sea sports - take up scuba diving and deep sea fishing and sea
or river canoeing. At Kapas Island are 2 diving schools where you can be certified. Sailing is great. Get one
of those Hobie-cats. Using a sea canoe to Kapas takes just under 1 hour.
You can canoe up Marang river for hours or even days. Stop at the riverside villages along the way. Explore the mangrove
swamps. See large iguanas in the river and monkeys in the trees.
If you like cycling - there are hundreds of kilometers of paved rural roads that snake
their way through the numerous villages in Marang, and beyond. Marang is a favourite stop for cycling tours. The
cyclists usually stop here for a couple of days before continuing on to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.
