BARRACUDA THAT DIDN'T GET AWAY

So you decide to live in Marang. What can you do here other than to go fishing and lay on the beach all day and get brown - although this is not at all a bad option.

There's all kinds of sea sports - take up scuba diving and deep sea fishing and sea or river canoeing.  At Kapas Island are 2 diving schools where you can be certified.  Sailing is great. Get one of those Hobie-cats.  Using a sea canoe to Kapas takes just under 1 hour.

You can canoe up Marang river for hours or even days. Stop at the riverside villages along the way. Explore the mangrove swamps. See large iguanas in the river and monkeys in the trees.

If you like cycling - there are hundreds of kilometers of paved rural roads that snake their way through the numerous villages in Marang, and beyond.  Marang is a favourite stop for cycling tours.  The cyclists usually stop here for a couple of days before continuing on to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

Cycling around in the village is a great way to see and to know Marang.  The villagers are very friendly and should you stop at one of the many village coffee shops along the way, there will be no shortage of curious and friendly people who will want to engage you in conversation.

Visit the local street market -- every Wednesday and Saturday mornings and every Sunday night, the streets of Marang town are closed for the street market.  Here you can buy raw and cooked food, clothings, souvenirs, fruits and even fake Rolexes...
